As my family and I see the damage that the Brisbane flood has caused in our neighbourhood of Rosalie, our hearts go to our friends and fellow residents. We have an immense clean up task ahead.
The flood waters have left rubbish and possibly residual toxic waste (sewage, petrol, oil). We are consulting with the council of the preferred way of identifying and removing this mess.
Surprising, many plants will survive this! In cleaning up your yard after the flood, wash / hose your plants as soon as you are able to as the muck left on the leaves may choke the plants, suffocating them. Give the turf a hose down as well but it is more likely to bounce back over time. Please consider that we are conserving water.
Many exotic plants (not native) do not like to have wet feet. Let’s hope the sun stays out to dry out the soil in time to see these species bounce back.
